Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Although the Flyers out hit the T- Bones 15-6 they fell one run short of opening up their 2006 campaign with a win. The Flyers were within striking distance several times, but were unable to capitalize.
The T-Bones got on early in the first when Charles Peterson hit a two-out three run homer to catapult their side out in front 3-0. It didn't take the Flyers long to get back on top when the designated hitter Chris Weekley hit a one-out grand-slam over the right field fence. The Flyers put up a total of five hits during their first appearance at the plate. Second basemen Gabby Delgato evened the score at four-all the following inning when he flew out to bring in shortstop Chad Sosebee. In the top of the third, Sosbee drove in two runs as he hit a triple to the fence in the right-center gap. Two batters later, center fielder Michael Spidale registered the T-Bones second three-run homer of the night off of starter Rick DeHart, moving the score to 9-4. In the bottom of the fourth Weekley walked, and was then driven in when right fielder Ben Van Iderstein doubled to edge the score to 9-5. Third baseman Jarrod Patterson knocked in second baseman Rob Watson when he tripled and was then brought home by center fielder Eric Cole when he singled the very next batter, closing the gap to two runs. First basemen Josue Lopez shrunk the gap to only one run when he hit a one out double over the center fielder's head to the fence, bringing in left fielder Garett Gentry. Lopez was stranded on second, unable to even up the score. Watson led of the ninth with a double hit to the left field corner. But was stranded on second when the next three batters fell to big T-Bones reliever Byron Embry.
Flyers Starter Rick DeHart picked up his first loss of the season. DeHart gave up nine runs, all earned, on five hits in three complete innings of work. Although giving up seven earned runs on nine hits, T-Bones starter Greg Bicknell picks up his first win for the season.
The Flyers continue their four game series with the T- Bones tomorrow at 7:05.
