Sacramento River Cats News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Sacramento River Cats fell to the Memphis Redbirds, 3-2, on Wednesday night at AutoZone Park in Memphis.
The game started like Tuesday's game one, with River Cats hitters struggling to get anything going against Memphis pitching and falling behind early, 1-0. The Sacramento bats would eventually get on the board, as Chris Denorfia's 2-run single in the 5th inning gave the Cats their first runs of the series and a 2-1 lead. That would be all the offense could muster, however, and Memphis wouldn't go away, scoring runs in the 5th and 6th innings to retake the lead for good, 3-2.
River Cats pitchers once again kept the game close, as starter Chad Reineke (5 2/3 IP, 3 R, 8 Ks) took his second tough-luck loss of the postseason. Redbirds starter Adam Ottavino was very effective, striking out 9 Cats en route to the victory.
The River Cats and Redbirds head to Raley Field for game three on Friday, where the Cats will need to win three straight to claim the title (Sacramento was a PCL-best 45-27 at home this season).
