MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis slipped by Sacramento 3-2 Wednesday night at AutoZone Park to claim a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five Pacific Coast League Championship Series.
Mark Hamilton's solo homer in the sixth inning gave the Redbirds the lead and the 'Birds bullpen did the rest. Royce Ring, Fernando Salas and Pete Parise each turned in perfect innings to seal the victory. Memphis starter Adam Ottavino earned the win giving up two runs on five hits while striking out a Redbirds playoff record nine batters. Parise picked up his fourth save of the playoffs. Hamilton finished the night 2-for-4 to lead the 'Birds.
Sacramento scored twice in the fifth to take the lead on Chris Denorfia's two-run single before Memphis tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a David Freese groundout. Denorfia led the River Cats with two hits. Starter Chad Reineke took the loss for the Cats allowing three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
The series shifts to Sacramento's Raley Field on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 9:05 p.m. PT. The Redbirds will send lefty Evan MacLane to the hill to face River Cats right-hander Jerome Williams.
