
Cats Fall in Shootout

Anthony Terenzio turned in a career performance Tuesday night at the Moncton Coliseum as his 46 saves helped lead the Halifax Mooseheads to a 4-3 shootout victory over the hometown Moncton Wildcats. Terenzio stood on his head all night long especially in the third period when the Wildcats peppered him with 24 shots. Brent Andrews, Darcy Ashley and Carl Genlinas scored for the Mooseheads. Replying for the Wildcats were Daniel Pettersson, Patrick Downe and Allain Saulnier with his 30th of the season. Brandon Thibeau got the start in the Wildcats net stopping 32 shots in a losing effort.
In what was a very entertaining first period, the Mooseheads were able to draw first blood. Following a Wildcat powerplay in which the generated numerous chances the Mooseheads got a powerplay of their own and capitalized as Brent Andrews found the back of the net at 8:35. The Moose doubled their lead at 12:14 as Darcy Ashley scored his 18th of the season. Although the Cats lead 15-12 in shots they found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first period.
There was no scoring in the second period as both teams tried to eliminated the run and gun game one another played in the first period.
The Wildcats offense awoke in the third period as they pushed for a goal. The Cats got on the board 2:21 into the period as Pettersson tipped a Dan Milan shot past Terenzio to make it 2-1. The Cats continued to look for an equalizer but could not solve Terenzio. Finally with just over five minutes to go in the game, Downe shoveled a puck past Terenzio to score his first career goal in the QMJHL and tie the game at two. The Wildcats went ahead with 1:48 left in the game as Saulnier jammed a puck home. However, the Wildcats first lead of the game lasted all of 27 seconds as Gelinas scored to tie the game setting the stage for overtime.
In overtime each team had three shots on net but neither could score as the game was headed to a shootout. In the shootout Thomas Flynn and Brandon Gormley scored for the Cats while Matthew Boudreau, Gelinas and Ashley all scored on their attempts.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday night as they travel to Saint John to face the number one ranked Sea Dogs. The Wildcats will be looking to win their first game this year against the Sea Dogs, game time is 7:30pm.
