Cats Fall in Crucial Game against Nighthawks

July 26, 2019 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
North Adams SteepleCats News Release

In another highly anticipated match-up with playoff implications at stake the Cats hosted the Nighthawks and looked to snap their three game losing skid to the Hawks. Gordon Graceffo took the hill for the Cats and went 6 solid innings allowing 3 runs, but only one of them earned. The offense behind him was stagnant all night as they continuously put runners on base, but were unable to cash in throughout the night. The lone offensive standout for the Cats was Shane Muntz who had 3 doubles and the lone RBI on the day for the Cats. The Nighthawks pitching staff stuck with the bend don't break philosophy as they left North Adams with their fourth win in a row against the Cats and they are only one game behind North Adams for first place in the division with only 6 games to go. Keene lost tonight so the Cats still hold a .5 game lead for first, but with Upper Valley only a game behind these three teams at the top all have a potential claim to the coveted regular season crown. The winner of the North will be set up with a favorable schedule for the playoffs, so these next 6 games will determine the final ordering of these playoffs.
