Fort Worth Cats News Release
Jordan Foster and Matt Spencer each homered for the Cats as Fort Worth defeated El Paso 5-4 Sunday night at LaGrave Field.
With the win, the Cats took 2-of-3 over the weekend from the Diablos and saw their record improve to 14-14 on the season.
The Cats took advantage of wildness early on by Diablos' starter Matt Parris. He walked back-to-back hitters with the bases loaded in the third inning to give Fort Worth a 2-0 lead. Foster's sacrifice fly scored Tony Mota and made it 3-0.
Spencer, after being sidelined for the first month of the season due to a broken bone in his hand, slugged a leadoff homer in the fourth inning to put the Cats up by four.
El Paso countered with three runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Albenis Mochado and a two-run double by Carlos Sepulveda to make it 4-3.
But, Foster gave the Cats a little cushion with a solo homer to leadoff the sixth inning, his fourth of the season. The Diablso scored again in the seventh, but would strand seven base runners over the final three innings and fall by one run.
Cats' starter Cory Walters (3-3) earned the win after allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits while striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings. Parris (1-2) took the loss after giving up five runs on four hits in five innings.
Steve Wilkerson notched his third save with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
