Fort Worth Cats News Release
The San Angelo Colts defeated the Fort Worth Cats 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, TX. The Cats left seven men in scoring position and could only muster up two runs on seven hits against San Angelo's messy defense.
Third baseman Davis Page and pitcher Logan Williamson were both credited with two errors. Williamson's first error was a throwing error on a bunt from Fort Worth second baseman Jon Dziomba, who moved to second on the play and later scored on a wild pitch from Williamson.
Dziomba would again capitalize on the Colts' throwing mishaps in the seventh when San Angelo catcher Josh Banda launched a throw down the first base line following a dropped third strike. Dziomba would score on a groundout from shortstop Scott Dalrymple. Dziomba finished the game 1-for-3 with both Cats' runs.
Scott Dalrymple came in as a pinch runner in the fifth inning after starting shortstop Shelby Ford suffered some tightness in his hamstring running to third base on a Chad Gabriel double. Ford missed the first eight games of the season with a hamstring injury and returned for his season debut against San Angelo on Thursday night.
Ford was 0-for-2 with a walk up to that point and Dalyrmple's only at-bat was his seventh-inning groundout that earned him the lone run batted in of the game. The only three other hitters to reach base in the game were left fielder Chad Gabriel (3-for-4), first baseman Jose Ruiz (1-for-4), and third baseman Brandon Jones (2-for-4).
Trevor Harden (1-2) got the start for the Cats and pitched five innings, giving up all four San Angelo runs on eight hits. Harden struck out three and walked one.
Brandon Wilkerson (1-0) pitched the last two innings, giving up only one hit. Wilkerson also struck out one.
San Angelo starter Logan Williamson (2-0) had an impressive outing, going 6 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on seven hits. Williamson struck out five and only walked one.
Erik Draxton picked up his third save on only two pitches to Chuck Caufield, getting him to fly out to right fielder JJ Sherrill. Caufield, who usually provides a lot for the Cats at the plate, was 0-for-4 in this game.
The Cats and Colts are once again tied for the league lead in the South Division of the North American League. Both teams have a record of 8-4. The league lead will once again be up for grabs in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader which starts at 5:35 p.m. at LaGrave Field.
