Thunder Drop Fourth Straight

Edinburg, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners scored at least one run in the first five innings to defeat the McAllen Thunder 12-5 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium for their third straight win.

The Thunder (2-9) got things started in the top of the first against Miguel Martinez. Antoin Gray hit an RBI single that allowed Craig Hertler to score giving them the early 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (6-5) responded in the bottom of the first with a run of their own. With two outs, Vincent Blue reached on a single and then stole second. After a walk to Carlos Hereaud, Derek Perren hit an RBI single that scored Blue to tie things at one.

After the Thunder tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single by Michael Lewis, the Roadrunners scored nine runs with four runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth to grab the 11-2.

McAllen added a run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Brian Nichols and in the top of the seventh an error helped them score two runs that made it 11-5 in favor of Edinburg.

Miguel Martinez (1-2) earned his first win of the season after pitching seven innings and allowing five runs, with four runs earned.

The Thunder will wrap up the four game series on Sunday evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Dave Dinelli (0-1) is expected to face south-paw Kendrick Martin (1-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

The Thunder is in their 2nd season of professional baseball and will open up their home 2012 ULB season on Tuesday, June 5 versus Abilene Prairie Dogs. Season Tickets, Family Passes and group nights for Thunder games are available at 956-380-6256.
