Cats Down Wings; Take Game Two

HARLINGEN - The Fort Worth Cats (38-23) used strong pitching and timely hitting to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (30-30) Friday night at Harlingen field.

RGV scored first on a Cody Collins RBI in-field single driving in Roberto Ramirez for a 1-0 Wings lead in the bottom of the first inning.

In the top of the third inning Kori Melo scored Chris Ellison tying the game at 1-1 even, Melo later scored on a Greg Bachman RBI double giving the Cats a 2-1 lead.

RGV answered back in the bottom of the fourth with the game tying RBI single from Goose Kallunki scoring Ramirez tying the game at 2-2.

Fort Forth used a three run seventh inning to re gain their lead. David Bergin scored on an infield single from Bachman. Daniel Meeley later scored on a RBI single from Josh Band making it 4-2 Fort Worth.

Mark Sobolewski capped of the inning scoring on a passed ball adding to the lead 5-2 Cats.

Cole Stephens (5-2) silenced the Wings to just two runs on seven hits on eight innings of work meanwhile, J.R Bromberg (0-1) was charged with the loss in his WhiteWings debut going five and one thirds, allowing eight hits and allowing two runs, one of them being unearned.

With the loss RGV falls into third place and now trail the Edinburg Roadrunners (31-30) who are currently sitting in second place and in control of the second playoff spot in the United League.

Game three of the series is set for Saturday, the Wings send A.J Smouse to the mound and look to gain ground in the hunt for the post season. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
