
Stephens Again Leads Cats to Win over Rio Grande Valley

The Fort Worth Cats overcame an early deficit and late-inning tie to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Friday in Harlingen.
The WhiteWings (30-30) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Cats (38-23) scored a run in the third and fourth inning before RGV tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Cats then rallied for three runs in the seventh to go up 5-2, where the score would stay for the final pitch.
Cats' starter Cole Stephens followed up his complete game performance on Sunday with eight innings of seven-hit two-run baseball to earn the win on Friday.
Relief pitcher Trevor Longfellow came on in the ninth and earned his first save of the season.
Right fielder Chris Ellison and third baseman Greg Bachman finished the night with one RBI each. Second baseman Josh Band also finished the night 3-for-5.
The Cats and WhiteWings face off again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Harlingen Field.
Fort Worth returns home to face the Edinburg Roadrunners on July 30.
