Moncton Wildcats News Release

Cats skate in "big boys" barn:

Today is a "treat day" for the Moncton Wildcats. They'll hold their usual Tuesday practice in a venue somewhat larger than either the Coliseum or the 4-Ice Centre. At 2 o'clock ADT, the team will hit the ice at Montreal's famed Bell Centre. Because of travel time, the Cats will miss the morning skate of both the Montreal Canadiens and the Atlanta Thrashers as the two NHL team prepare for tonight's contest. This minor disappointment is overcome by the fact that future stars of the National Hocky League, now wearing the Wildcats jersey, will get the awesome feeling of being in one of the premier hockey arenas in the world.

The Cats are on a three game road swing through Quebec. They play the Montreal Junior tomorrow night, then move up north to face Val D'Or on Friday night and the Huskies of Rouyn-Noranda on Saturday afternoon. Catch all of the action on News 91.9 or on the Telus webcast, game time tomorrow night is 8:35 Atlantic Time.

Booster Club helps with Wishmakers Parade:

Last Saturday's Children's Wish Foundation Parade in Moncton was supported by the always active Wildcats Booster Club. For the past number of years, the dedicated volunteers of the Booster Club have helped in this very worthwhile charity event and by all reports this year's parade was no exception. Hats off to the Club and Wild Willie who made a parade appearance before racing to Saint John to take part in the Rivalry Cup event at Harbour Station. Our Willie, according to some very bias judges, failed to win the Mascot competition but from our vantage point, he was a hands down winner in terms of appearance and agility over the Sea Dogs representative, who looked like a Fleabag.

Carving Skills needed:

Players, coaches and staff of the Wildcats will put their creative abilities to work when the team returns from the Quebec swing. They'll be carving pumpkins which will be sold at the next home game on October 27th against the Acadie- Bathurst Titan. It's another great charity cause, in support of the Mobile One Food Kitchen. If you'll recall last year's effort, you'll remember the great work done by the players in showing their creative skills off the ice. Word is that even some front office personnel will be given a pumpkin to work with, that's interesting, since some them can't carve a turkey, much less a pumpkin. We'll have photos of their work on the website in a couple of weeks.

October 29th is Boooo Night:

Want to dress in a crazy Halloween costumes, win some great prizes and show a certain Quebec Remparts coach Wildcats fans never forget? You can do all three on the 29th with the Wildcats Halloween Boooo Night celebration. Fans who come dressed as Ghosts and Goblins will be in the running for exciting prizes. Show us how fashion creative you can be and warm up the vocal chords, so the man behind the Quebec bench hears the roar from Wildcats fans.

Movember is getting close:

No, it's not a spelling mistake; it's a reminder of a face changing charity event of the Wildcats. Last year players and male staff got involved in an effort to raise money, by pledges, to support research into Prostate Cancer by growing beards and mustaches. Starting on November 1st, Movember moves into high gear. Some members of the office staff (no names will be mentioned) have been a little devious in starting early, claiming they're growing facial hair because the Boston Red Sox lost in the American League Baseball playoffs. That's a class "A" excuse for jumping in front of the rest of us for the Movember campaign. Look for growing hair and see who raises the most money?

Cat of the Day:

Francois Beauchemin, now a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, was acquired by the Wildcats in 1999 in a trade with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. The talented defenceman played 33 regular and 16 playoff games with the Cats before moving on to the pro ranks. He's played for Montreal, Columbus, Anaheim and now the Leafs.

Quote of the Day

"Last season we couldn't win at home and we were losing on the road. My failure was that I couldn't think of any place else to play."
