Mike Thomas Named Sea Dogs Captain

SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach Gerard Gallant announced today that veteran winger Mike Thomas has been named Team Captain for the 2009-10 season. A native of New Maryland, Thomas is the first New Brunswicker to serve as Sea Dogs Captain in the five-year history of the franchise.

Thomas, 19, has played in 185 games for Saint John since being selected in the fourth round (56th overall) of the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft. The 6'1", 204 lb. forward has registered 14G-25A-39P-299PIM thus far in his major junior career.

The Sea Dogs have also announced that defenseman Yann Sauvé and centre Michael Kirkpatrick will serve as the club's Alternate Captains this year.

Sauvé, 19, was the #1 overall pick at the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft and has gone on to tally 200GP-15G-57A-72P-243P over the course of his three-plus seasons with the Sea Dogs. The Rigaud, QC native was selected by the Vancouver Canucks with the 41st overall pick at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Kirkpatrick, 19, was named the Sea Dogs' Aliant Most Valuable Player last season after turning in a 34G-30A-64P performance in his sophomore campaign. The North Sydney, NS native also captured Net Difference Rookie of the Year honours in 2007-08. In 150 games played since being selected by Saint John in the second round (22nd overall) of the 2007 QMJHL Entry Draft, Kirkpatrick has registered 50G-48A-98P-79PIM to go along with a +16 rating.
