Moncton Wildcats News Release
I want Memorial Cup says Kabanov:
It didn't take long for Kirill Kabanov, to express why he wants to be a Moncton Wildcat. Minutes after he cleared Canadian Immigration late Wednesday night, Kabanov meet the media and about 100 Wildcats fans who came to welcome the young Russian to Moncton. "I want to play for Memorial Cup, I want to help the team, I'm exciting to be here," he said. The 7th overall pick in the European draft, the 6 foot 3 inch, 178 pound native of Moscow, will skate with the team while he waits his transfer card from the Russian IHF.
The IIHF may have to rule on the situation after written submissions are presented. Danny Flynn, the Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the Wildcats, says this process could take at least two weeks. Kabanov was a stand out with the Russian under-18 national team and is expected to be a high NHL draft pick next season.
