
Cats Claw Back But Lose a Heartbreaker in Edinburg

EDINBURG, Texas - The Fort Worth Cats tied the game in the eighth only to lose in walk-off fashion 4-3 Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Cristobal Santana hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth with two outs against TJ Bozeman to send the Roadrunner fans home happy.
Tied at three in the bottom of the ninth, Edinburg (37-22) had runners at second and third with two outs when Santana came through with the game-winning hit to center field scoring Carlos Hereaud.
The Cats (33-25) got the scoring started with an RBI double by Jose Ruiz in the top of the first that scored Jon Dziomba giving them the 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners answered back with RBI singles from Hereaud and Derek Perren in the bottom of the first inning giving Edinburg the 2-1 advantage.
Osvaldo Rodriguez did not allow a run after the first but got a no-decision after pitching six innings with one walk and seven strike outs.
In the bottom of the sixth, Edinburg picked up a run after Wilmer Pino came in to score on a wild pitching making it 3-1.
Fort Worth battled back as they got run a run on a solo homerun by Brandon Jones in the top of the seventh and an RBI single from Chad Gabriel in the top of the eighth, which tied the game at three.
In the bottom of the ninth, Pino started the inning with a single and then moved to third on a single by Hereaud. After an intentional walk to Perren that loaded up the bases, Felix Molina hit into a double play that set the stage for the Roadrunners' first baseman. Santana singled on the first pitch giving Edinburg the 4-3 victory.
Paul Koss (3-1) got the win after pitching two innings and allowing one run on two hits with five strike outs.
Cats' starter Steven Barnes had a quality start, as the three runs scored by Edinburg against the Fort Worth righty were all unearned.
The Roadrunners and Cats will continue their four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Aaron Tullo (2-2) is expected to face Blake Parry (3-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
