Fort Worth Cats News Release
Fort Worth rallied from a five-run deficit to win Thursday's first game 10-4, but then fell 4-1 in a marathon 13-inning game in the night cap as they split a doubleheader with Coastal Bend at LaGrave Field.
The Cats' record now stands at 1-2 on the first half of the season and 25-26 overall.
Coastal Bend jumped out to a 6-1 lead in Game 1, but the Cats rallied to score five runs in the third, capped by Adam Miller's second homer of the season. They would break the 6-6 tie in the fifth inning as they scored four runs on back-to-back two-run hits from Shawn Williams and David Keesee.
Dan Valentin, pitching in relief went three scoreless innings to get the win. Starter Ricky Stover fell to 2-4 with the loss for Coastal Bend.
Tony Mota led off the bottom of the first with a home run as the Cats took a 1-0 lead in the second game. But the Cats would not score again in the ballgame.
Coastal Bend tied the game at one in the sixth inning when Wilson Burwell came home to score on an RBI fielder's choice. The game remained tied at one until the 13th inning when Bryon Smith hit a bases-loaded double to left field to win it for the Aviators.
Matt Harrington suffered the loss in relief. BJ Litchfield got the win as he recorded three shutout, hitless innings.
The Cats head to Shreveport to open a three-game series this weekend. Joel Kirsten faces former teammate Josh Neitz in the opener.
