St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
Sioux City, IA-The St. Joe (4-1, 30-23) offense was silenced by Billy Keppinger in a 9-2 loss to Sioux City (3-2, 27-26). Keppinger (5-3) tossed his second consecutive complete game, limiting the 'Snakes to just seven hits and two runs.
The Explorers jumped out with a couple of two out runs in the first against Andrew Edwards and put the game away with a run in the second and three more in the third.
Billy Keppinger allowed just an infield single by Misha Dworken in the third through the first four innings before St. Joe strung four straight hits together. Terrell Merriman doubled and scored the first run when Cody Nowlin followed with a base hit. Misha Dworken then singled before Denver Kitch plated Nowlin with a single to get within 6-2.
But that was all Keppinger (5-3) would allow the offense in his league-best third complete game of the year. He struck out a career-high 10 in completing his second consecutive outing.
Misha Dworken had three hits and Cody Nowlin had a pair for St. Joe. But Sioux City pounded 17 hits, tying the most allowed by St. Joe in a single-game this season.
St. Joe will look to rebound Saturday night at 7:05pm at Lewis & Clark Park in the third game of the four-game serie. Evan Thomas (4-5) looks to even his record for the first time this year against Trevor Marcotte (1-3) for the X's. The webcast will begin at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show.
