St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

Sioux City, IA-The Blacksnakes (4-0, 30-22) took the series opener, 13-12, in a wild, back-and-forth affair with Sioux City (2-2, 26-26). St. Joe jumped out to a big early lead before having to come back in the eighth for the win.

St. Joe plated three runs in the first and six more in the second to take a 9-2 lead, only to see the Explorers rally to take the lead, 11-10, by scoring five times in the sixth inning.

But the 'Snakes rallied in the eighth, scoring three times to take the lead at 13-11. Mark Burke delivered a pinch-hit run-scoring single to tie the game before Terrell Merriman scored on a wild pitch for the go-ahead run. A head's up base-running play by Jefferson Infante on a Jimmy Mojica fielder's choice added the extra run that turned out to be the difference.

Sioux City would not give up and plated a run in the ninth before stranding the potential tying and winning runs on base when Jamie Tricoglou struck out Dan Meier.

Wil Quintana had four hits-including two doubles and his 12th home run-and scored four runs while Jake Whitesides had three more hits. Five other 'Snakes had two hits and the offense tied a season-high with 19 hits.

With the 'Snakes taking the opener, the series continues Friday night at 7:05pm from Sioux City. The Heartland Health Pre-Game Show begins at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com. Andrew Edwards (1-1) goes for St. Joe against the Explorers' Billy Keppinger (4-3).
