Catcher John Wilson transferred to Edmonton

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that catcher John Wilson has been transferred to the club from Double-A Harrisburg and will be available for Monday night's game. The Trappers have made a total of 36 transactions involving 25 players since May 4. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 24 players; 11 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders and four outfielders, plus five players (right-hander Seung Song, right-hander Christian Parker, infielders Henry Mateo and Maicer Izturis and catcher Randy Knorr) on the disabled list.

Wilson, 25, was hitting .201 (27-for-134) with two home runs and 14 RBI in 45 games with Harrisburg before the promotion. The native of West Hills, California was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 11th round of the 2000 draft and spent his entire career in the Mets farm system until he was selected by the Expos in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft, December 15, 2003. Wilson split last season between Double-A Binghamton, where he hit .324 (35-for-108) with one home run and 11 RBI in 43 games, and Triple-A Norfolk, where he batted .190 (19-for-100) with six RBI in 27 games. He is a career .260 (278-for-1068) hitter with 12 home runs and 133 RBI in 338 minor league games.

The next Trapper home game will be on Monday, June 14 when the club will take on the Tucson Sidewinders. The game will begin at 7:05 PM.
