Casteel Cycle Leads Barnstormers

September 2, 2018 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Ryan Casteel hit for the cycle, the third Barnstormer in history to do so, leading the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 10-1 win over the Sugar Land Skeeters Sunday evening at Constellation Field.

With the split of the four-game series, the Barnstormers moved closer to a playoff berth with two weeks left in the season. The magic numbers for the wild card spot are seven with York and five with New Britain. Lancaster also pulled to within six games of the Skeeters for the top spot in the Freedom Division.

Overall, the Barnstormers went 5-3 on an eight-game, six-day road trip against the two division leaders.

Casteel, serving as the DH for the night, doubled down the right field line in the third, tripled to right center in the fourth and slammed a three-run homer in the seventh. With Blake Gailen aboard ahead of him on a walk in the ninth, Casteel launched a drive to deep left field which barely missed clearing the wall. Gailen stopped ahead of him, keeping Casteel at first with a long single.

Carlos Garcia opened the Lancaster salvo with a two-run homer in the second inning, his first of the season. K.C. Hobson tacked on an RBI single in the third with the second of his three hits on the night, and Casteel made it 4-0, driving in Gailen with his triple.

Gailen had an RBI single in the seventh, and Josh Bell doubled home a run in the ninth. Overall, Lancaster amassed 15 hits, including six for extra bases.

Ty'Relle Harris (1-1) also threw a gem for the Barnstormers, carrying a no-hitter for 4 2/3 innings until Daniel Robertson singled to center. Following a pair of walks to open the sixth, Garrett Granitz replaced Harris and got out of the inning on a double play and a grounder.

Sugar Land finally scored off Huascar Brazoban with two outs in the ninth when Matt Chavez doubled to the fence in right.

Lancaster returns home to take on Somerset in a doubleheader on Wednesday evening. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 5:45.
