
Carter, Morel Drive Dash Past Blue Rocks

Winston-Salem, NC - Anthony Carter was sound on the mound on Brent Morel was powerful at the plate as Winston-Salem (9-9) rolled past Wilmington 8-4 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Carter (2-1) tossed a career-high eight innings and limited the Blue Rocks (9-9) to two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. It was the longest outing by a pitcher in the Carolina League this season.
The Dash offense was carried by Morel, who finished with two home runs and a season-high five RBI. It also gave Winston-Salem their first three-game winning streak this season. Christian Marrero added a home run, one of his two hits and Jimmy Gallagher extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a pair of singles. It is the longest hitting streak in professional baseball this season.
Wilmington plated a run in the first inning when Jeff Bianchi delivered a two-out RBI double that scored Johnny Giavotella. The Blue Rocks 1-0 lead would last until the fourth inning when Winston-Salem was finally able to produce against Danny Duffy. With one out, Gallagher and Salvador Sanchez singled. Morel followed with a three-run shot to put the Dash in front 3-1. Next, Marrero hit a solo home run over the right field fence. It was the first time this season the Dash have connected on back-to-back home runs.
In his next at-bat in the fifth inning, Morel struck again with a two-run blast off Duffy for a 6-1 Winston-Salem lead. Both teams exchanged a run in the sixth with Wilmington getting an RBI ground out from Johnny Giavotella and Jordan Danks delivering run-scoring single for the Dash.
After CJ Lang plated a run with a double in the eighth inning for Winston-Salem, the Blue Rocks would finalize the scoring in the ninth inning when Bianchi hit a two-run home run off Hector Santiago. Duffy (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after surrendering six runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
The Dash will continue their seven day home stand when they welcome in the Frederick Keys for a three-game series beginning on Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will turn to RHP Charlie Shirek (2-0, 2.30), while the Keys are expected to start LHP Zach Britton (0-0, 1.93). The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Single-game tickets are available for games at Wake Forest Baseball Park through June 17. A special group package is available for $8 and includes a reserved seat, a limited edition Dash hat and special recognition at the ballpark. A group consists of 20 or people and the tickets must be purchased in advance to receive the exclusive benefits.
