Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

SAN ANGELO - Trey Carter broke a 6-6 deadlock in the bottom of the eighth inning, hitting the go-ahead RBI to give the San Angelo Colts the win over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Thursday night at Foster Field.

With a runner in scoring position on second base, Carter, who was 0-3 on the night, hit a ground ball down the first base line to deliver the winning run.

The run, scored against relief pitcher Julio Santana, takes the loss (3-4, 5.04 ERA) while Cory Patton (2-0, 3.94 ERA) gets the win.

San Angelo closer Sean Kramer came out to close the game in top of the ninth inning, getting his 13th save of the year.

The WhiteWings (42-30) split the four-game series with the Colts (45-27).

After the WhiteWings grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the third inning, the Colts scored six consecutive runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-3 lead. Cory Patton started the scoring for the Colts when he hit his 22nd homerun of the year, a solo shot over the right-centerfield wall. Seven consecutive hits in the next inning brought home five runs, giving the Colts the 6-3 advantage.

Trailing 6-3 in the top of the fifth inning, the WhiteWings stormed back to tie the score starting with an Alexis Hernandez RBI in the fifth inning. Next inning, David Peralta doubled to right field to bring home two more runs, tying the score at 6-6.

That later set up Carter's late game heroics in the bottom of the eighth as his RBI gave the Colts the 7-6 win.

The WhiteWings are back in action Friday night at Harlingen Field as they take on the McAllen Thunder. Alexander Concepcion (7-4, 5.16 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the 'Wings.
