Carte Ties League Record Hitting Streak, Colonials Edged 9-8

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials were edged 9-8 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Sussex Skyhawks' catcher Ryan Boelsen at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey on Friday night.

Boelsen (2-for-4, 4 RBI) knocked in four runs, including the winning single in the home half of the ninth inning to lead the Skyhawks offense. Centerfielder Carl Loadenthal (2-for-4, 2B, SB, RBI) doubled and had an RBI while teammate Nick Giarraputo (1-for-4, HR) smacked a solo home run for the winners.

Skyhawks' starting pitcher Dan Berlind took a no-decision with four and two-thirds innings of work, allowing four runs on seven hits, three walks, and four strike-outs. Reliever Jared Locked (3-1) earned the win pitching the final one and one-third innings out of the Sussex bullpen.

Pittsfield right fielder Dan Carte (2-for-3, 2 2B, 4 RBI) hammered a pair of doubles and added four RBIs to tie the Can-Am League hitting streak record at 29 consecutive games set in 2008 by Dennis Abreu with the Nashua Pride and Brockton Rox. Shortstop Matt Nandin (3-for-5, RBI) notched a three hit evening for Pittsfield and chipped in with an RBI.

Colonials' starter David Qualben factored in a no-decision; he went six innings and allowed six runs (two earned) on eight hits, one walk, and two strike-outs. Closer Reymond suffered his first blown save of the season and took the loss, conceding two runs in the ninth.

The Colonials will conclude the three game series with Sussex on Saturday afternoon at 5:05pm when Kyle Zakeski (4-1) gets the nod against the Skyhawks' Mike Vicaro (2-0).
