August 15, 2007 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release

The Carolina RailHawks are set to host the Atlanta Silverbacks on Friday August 17th at 7:30 PM at SAS Soccer Park in Cary. This will be the fourth time these two rival teams meet and the final fixture for the Southern Derby Cup, a fan based competition created to promote friendly rivalries among teams in the South.

The RailHawks are hot off the 3-0 victory against the Charleston Battery and have already mathematically won the coveted trophy which will be presented to the team during the pre-game festivities. Carolina will also want to defend their home field and earn three important points for the playoff race.

"Atlanta is a team on a hot streak," said RailHawks head coach Scott Schweitzer. "They have made some adjustments since we met them last may and we will approach this match like we approach all of our remaining matches, as if it is the last game we play."

The Atlanta Silverbacks are currently sitting in fourth place in the standings and are also looking to remain in the playoff run. They are led by forward Dan Antoniuk who has seven goals and nine assists this season and by defender/midfielder David Hayes who also scored seven goals for the Georgia side.

"Right now the playoff race is extremely tight and I think both teams are in a must-win situation. We're going to treat this game as if it's a playoff game itself and hopefully our team will be relatively injury free and full strength," commented Atlanta head coach Jason Smith.

It is Whole Foods night at SAS Soccer Park on Friday night and the first 1,000 fans will receive a tote bag courtesy of Whole Foods. The day after the match on Saturday August 18th the Carolina RailHawks will be holding a meet and greet at Whole Foods in Cary to raise funds and awareness for the Big Brother, Big Sister club of the Triangle. The Southern Derby Cup will be on display at the Whole Foods store in Cary for all fans to see. The team will be selling food and grilled hot dogs to all patrons and proceeds will be donated to the Big Brother, Big Sister organization. All fans are encouraged to visit the Whole Foods store at Waverly in Cary to show their support for this great cause.
