North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Monday, September 2, 2008) - The Carolina RailHawks and XIOS restaurant, on Highway 55 in Apex, have partnered to raise money and awareness for children's cancer. XIOS will be hosting a St. Baldrick's event on Saturday, September 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Steven Curfman, Ryan Solle, Caleb Norkus and Nathan Zuzga will all shave their heads for charity and help raise awareness for childhood cancer research. All Railhawks fans are encouraged to come to the event and help raise money for a good cause. Fans may also make donations by visiting www.stbaldricks.org, searching for the XIOS event and clicking on their favorite RailHawk to make a donation. Fans may also click on the St Baldrick's picture on the Carolina RailHawks website at www.carolinarailhawks.com.
Fun and free activities for the entire family include clowns, magicians, face painters, balloon animals, music and special appearances by your favorite RailHawks Soccer players and their mascot, Swoops. The RailHawks team will show in force to cheer on their soon-to-be-bald team mates, Nathan Zuzga, Ryan Solle, Steven Curfman and Caleb Norkus. XIOS will donate $1 for every gyro sold, and all money raised that day will go to the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The Foundation has issued a lofty challenge to everyone who wants to help raise money for childhood cancer research: Be a hero for kids with cancer by shaving your head, or supporting someone who does, in return for pledges of financial support from friends and family. For information about how to participate in the head-shaving event, go to www.stbaldricks.org and click on "Be a Shavee."
St. Baldrick's is a non-profit Foundation that raises money for childhood cancer research primary through head-shaving events. The mission of the Foundation is to raise awareness and funds to cure kids' cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. Since its inception in 2000, over 46,000 shavees have shaved their heads at more than 1,200 events, raising over $34 million dollars. For more information please visit www.StBaldricks.org.
The RailHawks continue their quest for the seventh and final playoff spot this Saturday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park as they host Southern Derby Cup rival the Charleston Battery.
