Kitchener Rangers News Release

Ryan Murphy is now property of the Carolina Hurricanes. He was selected by the Hurricanes with the 12th pick of the first round in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rangers' blueliner was the second-leading scorer among OHL defencemen last season with 79 points. His 26 goals placed him second among all defencemen in the Canadian Hockey League. 14 of his goals were scored on the power play.

Murphy was originally drafted by the Rangers with the third overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. He played on Canada's entry at the 2011 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in April where he led his team in scoring with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in seven games. He was also invited to Canada's National Junior Team Summer Development Camp in August, the first step in identifying players for Canada's World Junior Team for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships.
