Canucks Select Jensen in the First Round

St. Paul, Minnesota- Oshawa Generals winger Nicklas Jensen has been selected 29th overall in the 1st round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

Jensen, a native of Herning, Denmark had a big rookie season with the Generals after he was selected in the 1st round (8th overall) of the 2010 CHL Import Draft. The winger scored an impressive 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points in 61 games during the regular season and followed that with a solid 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points in 10 playoff games.

"We are happy and proud of Nick for what he has accomplished," said Generals Head Coach and General Manager Chris DePiero. "He came in and had a great year with us and made the adjustment to the North American style of game."

At 6-foot-3, Jensen brings a solid mix of skill and size, making him one of the premier prospects in this year's NHL Draft class.

"He's a game-breaker," said DePiero. "He has great vision with a great shot. Not only does he have the ability to score goals but he has a strong desire to score goals and works hard for his opportunities."

Jensen has represented Denmark twice at the IIHF World Junior Championships Division I Tournament. In 2010 he scored 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points in five games and helped Denmark to a 2nd place finish just narrowly missing out on jumping the team to the main tournament.

At the 2011 Division I event this past December, Jensen scored 2 goals and 3 assists in 5 games and helped Denmark win its group which will put them into the main group at the 2012 IIHF World Junior tournament.

Prior to joining the Generals, Jensen spent the 2009-10 campaign with his hometown Herning Blue Fox where in 34 games he tallied 12 goals and 14 assists for 16 points.
