Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders Head Coach and Co-President Mark Carlson won his 600th game on Sunday, February 18th in a 4-2 road win against the Madison Capitols.
Carlson becomes the 1st coach in USHL history to reach 600 wins with one team and just the 2nd USHL Head Coach to reach 600 wins.
"This achievement celebrates the 600th time that Coach Carlson has been on the winning side of a USHL scoreboard, which is extremely impressive in its own right. However, it pales in comparison with what he has accomplished through molding hundreds and hundreds of young men into better people and helping them continue their success both on and off the ice in life, not to mention all he has done personally here in our community," said Doug Miller, Co-President of the RoughRiders with Carlson. "He is one of the truly good guys and we are so very lucky to have him here in Cedar Rapids."
Carlson is the only coach in Cedar Rapids RoughRiders history, leading the organization to one Clark Cup Championship (2004-2005), three Anderson Cup titles (2004-2005, 2010-2011, 2015-2016) and has assisted over 500 players in reaching their dreams of playing college hockey as student athletes, while also having 35 former players drafted into the National Hockey League. Carlson has also been named USHL Coach of the Year three times (2005, 2011, 2016).
"I'm really happy for the guys that they went out and won the game today, first and foremost," said Carlson. "Players win games but I do have to say I'm really proud to have done this with one franchise for the RoughRiders, the community and organization."
The RoughRiders will honor Carlson pre-game at their next home game on Friday, February 23rd at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena when the RoughRiders host the Tri-City Storm.
