Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that C Carlos Ramirez has been placed on the 7-day disabled list and C Hampton Tignor joins the Kernels from the Orem Owlz (PIO). Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Monday.
Ramirez suffered a right rib contusion in a play at home plate in the bottom of the second inning in Sunday's 7-2 win at Bowling Green. He remained in the game and hit two home runs and leads the Kernels with eight on the season.
Tignor was selected by the Angels in the 36th round of the 2010 Free Agent Draft out of the University of Florida. In 18 games at Orem, he is hitting .224 (11-49) with 2 RBI and had been splitting the catching duties with Andrew Oldfield.
Tignor will join the Kernels in Bowling Green and be available for tonight's 7:05 pm game with the Hot Rods. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at 24 active players, one short of the MWL maximum, with four currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels continue a nine-game road trip tonight at 7:05 pm in Bowling Green, KY, returning to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 31st. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
