Washington, D.C. -For the second consecutive year, the Washington Mystics and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) will hold a diaper drive to benefit the March of Dimes Mama & Baby Bus. The drive will be held on Saturday, August 20, prior to the 7:00 p.m. game between the Mystics and the Chicago Sky.

The March of Dimes Mama & Baby Bus is the first and only prenatal/dental mobile unit in the city, providing free prenatal and dental care to pregnant women in wards 1, 2, 4 and 5 in Washington, D.C. In 2010, over 21,500 diapers were collected by Mystics fans for the March of Dimes Mama & Baby Bus. The 30-foot vehicle is staffed by health care professionals and educators who ride the bus to underserved areas of the city.

'We are excited to conduct our second annual diaper drive to support the March of Dimes Mama & Baby Bus," said Washington Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb. "Our goal is to fill the bus and collect over 22,000 diapers for women and children in need. We appreciate the support the Mystics fan base and community provides to this important initiative." The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. This mission is carried out through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives.

"This is a partnership that supports a critical need in the community," said Maria Harris Tildon, CareFirst Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Community Affairs. "We are proud to sponsor the Mystics players during their 2011 season and the March of Dimes Mama & Baby Bus, which delivers free prenatal and dental care to women who are pregnant, in Wards 1, 2, 4 and 5."
