Cards shut down by Brooklyn

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


For the second straight evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals were shut out by the Brooklyn Cyclones 1-0 in the 2nd game of their 3 game set. The Cardinals saw their record fall to 5-9 while the Cyclones improved to 10-4. Michael Cooper picked up the loss (0-2) for the Cardinals, while Kyle Risinger picked up his 1st victory of the season (1-0) and Kevin Tomasiewicz picked up his 1st save of the season.

The Cyclones scored the only run of the game in the 5th. Caleb Stewart led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Joshua Petersen flew out to center and Stewart advanced to third and scored when Yonathan Siviras throw from center went over Daniel Nelsons head and into the Cyclones dugout.

The Cardinals had a couple of opportunities in the 5th and 7th but were unable to score in either inning when they could not come up with the big hit.

Tonight's game also marked the debut of Cardinals 1st round pick Tyler Greene. Greene was 2-4 with a double and a walk and a couple of great defensive plays.

The Cardinals set a season high in attendance tonight with 5,522 paying to see the action.

The Cardinals will be on the road for the next 8 days as they travel to Brooklyn tomorrow to conclude their 3 game set with the Cyclones. The Cards will then head off to Williamsport for 3 and then Aberdeen for 3.

The Cardinals will return to Skylands on Wednesday July 13th to start a 6 game home stand with 3 against Hudson Valley and 3 games against Oneonta.
