Springfield Cardinals News Release

Frisco, TX - As was the case in the first two games of the series, the Frisco RoughRiders jumped out to an early lead against Springfield. James Tomlin led off the game with a single, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on an RBI groundout by Joey Butler to give Frisco a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals finally got on the scoreboard in the 4th inning as Steven Hill doubled to right center and was driven in by a two-out RBI triple by Daryl Jones to tie the game 1-1.

Springfield broke the game open in the top of the 5th as they plated five runs with two outs. After Pete Kozma walked to lead off the inning, the next two batters were retired. A wild pitch moved Kozma to second before Jim Rapoport singled to center to score a run and give the Cards their first lead of the series. Mike Folli and Steven Hill followed with back to back RBI doubles to make the score 4-1. Andrew Brown worked a walk before Daryl Jones delivered an RBI single to make it 5-1. Curt Smith then hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped allowing the fifth and final run of the inning to score giving the Cards a 6-1 lead.

The Cards did not stop there as they plated two more runs in the 6th inning on back to back bases loaded walks to Andrew Brown and Daryl Jones.

Gary Daley Jr. started for Springfield and pitched well in his first start of the season last five innings allowing just one run on four hits.
