New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets), 4-3. Quinton Robertson (1-2) suffered the loss for the Cards (28-25), while Scott Hyde (3-1) picked up the win for the Cyclones (29-22). Celso Rondon worked a perfect 9th for his 8th save of the season. With the loss, the Cardinals fell 2.0 games behind division leading Brooklyn.
The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Wes Swackhamer scored on Sean Dobsons bases loaded walk. The Cyclones bounced back with a 4-run 5th inning, but the Cards would not go quietly. Levi Webber and Mike Ferris ripped back-to-back home runs in the 7th to pull the Cards within a run at 4-3, but the Cyclones bullpen stymied the Cards rally as Brooklyn held on for the victory.
On the day, Matt Shepherd picked up two hits, and relievers Adam Acosta and Cory Doyne each made scoreless relief outings. The Cardinals bullpen has not allowed a run in its last 17.0 innings pitched.
Tomorrow, the Cards open a home and road series with Staten Island (New York Yankees), playing at Skylands Park on Monday night at 7:15. Following an off-day on Tuesday, Williamsport (Pittsburgh Pirates) stops in for a 5-game set. Doubleheaders with the Crosscutters are slated for Wednesday and Thursday night beginning at 6:00 pm, and Fridays single game will begin at 7:15.
