Springfield Cardinals News Release
The Tulsa Drillers handed the Springfield Cardinals a second straight loss going into Tuesday's Texas League All-Star Break, defeating the Redbirds 6-1 on Monday night at Drillers Stadium.
Cards' starter Brian Broderick turned in a quality start, but the offense couldn't get it going, picking up just four hits on the night.
Five Drillers' pitchers combined to allow just one run on four hits, with reliever Xavier Cedeno (3-2) picking up the win.
Springfield struck for the game's first run, as Mike Folli's ground ball plated Tyler Henley, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead in the second, over starter Samuel Deduno.
Broderick was cruising until the fourth. With two outs, Jeff Kindel singled up the middle, then moved to second on a walk issued to Mike McKenry. Ryan Harvey followed with an RBI single, tying the game at 1-1. Darin Holcomb then brought home McKenry with a bad-hop single over the glove of shortstop Pete Kozma, giving Tulsa the lead for good at 2-1.
Harvey struck again in the sixth, blistering a line drive over the shoulder of Broderick into center field, scoring Michael Paulk to make it 3-1.
Broderick (0-4) allowed three runs on six hits over six innings, walking just one batter.
The Drillers got to reliever Brad Furnish for three in the seventh, as the inning was highlighted by Anthony Jackson's two-run homer, his fourth.
Springfield didn't put a man on base over the final three innings of Monday's game.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced today, that pitcher Kyle Lohse will be starting for the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday night, as they open a six-game home stand at Hammons Field. Lohse, on the Disabled List since June 5th with a right forearm strain, is set to face the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night at 7:10pm.
