Drillers win second straight over Cards

The Tulsa Drillers capped a seven-game homestand with a 6-1 victory over the Springfield Cardinals Monday night at Drillers Stadium. The win was the second straight for the Drillers and improved their second-half record to 2-3.

The Cardinals took an early lead with their lone run of the game in the second inning. Tyler Henley led off with a single and eventually scored on Mike Folli's ground out.

The Drillers took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Jeff Kindel grounded a single to center before Michael McKenry walked to put men on first and second. Ryan Harvey's lined single to left drove in Kindel to tie the game at 1-1. Darin Holcomb's bad-hop single into center field made it 2-1. It was Holcomb's first RBI in the last 14 games.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Drillers scored another run to push their lead to 3-1. After Mike Paulk singled on a liner to right, he took second on a groundout by McKenry. He came home on Harvey's single to center.

Anthony Jackson increased the margin to 5-1 in the seventh. After pinch-hitter Brad Corley walked, Jackson hit his fourth home run of the season and his second of the homestand. The liner just cleared the left field wall near the foul pole.

Tulsa added its final run later in the inning as Danny Sandoval doubled and scored on a Paulk's third hit of the night.

Reliever Xavier Cedeno (3-2) picked up the win for the Drillers after allowing only one hit in two innings of work. He followed starter Samuel Deduno to the mound. Deduno departed after four innings after reaching his limit of 60 pitches. He allowed only the one run on three hits while striking out four.

Adam Bright, Austin Chambliss and Edgmer Escalona each tossed a hitless inning and combined for three strikeouts to finish the game.

After a day off on Tuesday, five Drillers will make a trip to Frisco, Texas to play in the Texas League All-Star game on Wednesday.

The Drillers schedule will resume Thursday as they begin a six-game road trip in Corpus Christi. Chaz Roe (2-1, 2.55 ERA) will pitch against Sergio Perez (6-6, 4.60 ERA) of the Hooks. First pitch at Whataburger Field will be at 7:05PM.

NOTES: Springfield first baseman Matt Arburr was carted from the field in the bottom of the eighth inning after suffering from dehydration. . . .Harvey as 12 runs batted in in his last 12 games. . . .McKenry was 1-3 to extend his hitting streak to six straight games.
