Cards Eliminated
September 4, 2004 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
New Jersey Cardinals News Release
The New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) have been eliminated from the race for the wild card in the New York Penn League. Mahoning Valley defeated Batavia, 7-1, to secure the wild card and advance to the playoffs, while New Jersey continues the longest playoff drought in the league.
The Cards gave it a valiant effort, winning each of their final 6 games of the year to give themselves a chance heading into the final day of the season. In the process, the Cards swept a 6-game home stand for the first time in franchise history, and finished with a 41-34 record, good for the 2nd best record in franchise history. New Jersey finished 2nd in the McNamara Division, their highest finish since 1994 when they last advanced to the playoffs and won the NY Penn League title.
The Cardinals are already preparing for the 2005 season, and hope to see all their fans back at Skylands Park next June!
