St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Jacob Evans pitched the Palm Beach Cardinals to a 6-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets in Saturday's rubber game at Tradition Field.
Evans tied his season high by logging eight innings. He gave up just three hits, including a solo home run to Mets catcher Lednier Ricardo.
Evans retired 12 in a row at one point. He ended his night by striking out Champ Stuart to finish off the eighth. The win snapped a streak of seven straight starts with a loss.
Four Mets pitchers combined to walk eight batters and hit a batter. Five of those batters ended up scoring. The Mets walked no. 2 hitter Blake Drake four times and hit him another time. Drake scored three runs.
Starter Chris Flexen needed 84 pitches to navigate four innings. He only allowed four hits and three runs but walked four, plunked Drake and threw a wild pitch.
Ricardo's home run was his first in the Mets organization. It came with two outs in the third and cut the Mets deficit to 2-1.
Stuart and John Mora had the other hits for the Mets. Both were singles.
Cole Lankford went 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Cardinals.
Next Up: The Mets (36-34, 1-2) start an eight-game road trip with a Sunday matinee at the Jupiter Hammerheads. First pitch from Roger Dean Stadium is 1 p.m.
