Cardinals Sweep Travs with 5-0 Win

Little Rock, AR - Springfield completed the sweep of the Arkansas Travelers with a 5-0 victory at Dickey Stephens Park and finished their seven-game road trip to Arkansas 5-2.

The Cardinals jumped out early for the third straight game scoring a pair of runs in the 2nd inning against Nick Maronde in his AA debut. With two outs, Greg Garcia double, Alan Ahmady doubled him home and Adam Melker followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

In the 3rd, back to back doubles by Travis Tartamella and Kolten Wong plated another run to put Springfield in front 3-0.

Springfield added two more in the 5th as Adam Melker singled, Travis Tartamella doubled, Kolten Wong singled to score Melker and Jermaine Curtis hit a sacrifice fly to put the Cardinals in front 5-0.

Starter Richard Castillo was brilliant for the Redbirds going seven shutout innings allowing just five singles and striking out three. Justin Wright tossed the final two innings scoreless to finish off the sweep of the Travelers

The Cardinals will return home Friday, August 3rd to play a four-game series with the Tulsa Drillers. Carlos Martinez will be on the mound against Dan Houston of the Drillers.
