Springfield Cardinals News Release
Tulsa, OK - The Springfield Cardinals outlasted the Tulsa Drillers, 5-2, in 10 innings before 4,193 fans at ONEOK Field on Wednesday. With a three-game sweep of the Drillers, the Cardinals close the road trip on a five-game winning streak.
After Cardinals RHP Connor Jones and Tulsa LHP Kyle Lobstein alternated a pair of scoreless innings apiece, the Cardinals (14-19, 47-56) broke through in the top of the third. RF Randy Arozarena rifled a double off the right-center field fence, before scoring on an RBI single from SS Evan Mendoza for the 1-0 lead.
Jones kept the narrow lead intact with scoreless work through his first four frames, before an unearned run for Tulsa (20-12, 54-48) evened it in the fifth. With two away, SS Errol Robinson reached safely on a fielding error, before taking second on a wild pitch. He then scored on a pinch-hit RBI single from C Keibert Ruiz that just squeaked through the left side, tying the game at 1-1.
Both sides kept the tie intact until the Cardinals jumped back in front in the top of the 10th inning against RHP Andrew Istler (L, 2-3). With the bases loaded and two away, 2B Andy Young delivered a go-ahead, two-run single to right field. LF Victor Roache and C Jeremy Martinez then both added RBI singles, padding the lead to 5-1.
RHP Will Latcham took over to start the bottom of the 10th and got the first batter to fly out to right, though it did advance SS Errol Robinson, the automatic runner to third. An RBI single from 1B Luke Raley brought home Robinson, but Latcham dug in with consecutive strikeouts to slam the door in the 5-2 extra-innings win for Springfield. RHP Derian Gonzalez (W, 1-0) tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to log the win for the Cardinals.
