New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) were upended by the visiting Lowell Spinners. New Jersey fell to 24-35 as the Spinners ascend to 32-24. Winning pitcher Davey Penny (4-1) acquired the win, while Dave Williamson (0-5) absorbed the Cardinals loss. Williamson threw 3.2 innings, yielding two hits, two runs, both earned. He also had six walks to accompany his six strikeouts. In the process Tom Cochran picked up his second save of the year.
The Cardinals battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the fifth frame. Matt Pagnozzi took a pitch in the shoulder, and then advanced on a passed ball. Kevin Estrada drove in Pagnozzi with a single. Following the stretch, New Jersey scored four seventh inning runs. Billy Schmitt reached on an error, before Andrew Ginther singled. Chris Tuttle singled to load the bases for Kevin Estrada. After a Melvin Falu free pass, Casey Grimm brought home two runs with a single to left centerfield. The Cardinals ended the game with runners on first base and third base, but the rally was squelched by Cochran.
Kevin Estrada went three for five with one run scored and three RBI's. Estrada also extended his team best stolen base tally to 17 with a swipe in the fifth inning. Chris Tuttle managed to go two for five with a run scored.
The Cardinals continue their homestand tomorrow against the Williamsport Crosscutters at 7:15 p.m. Tomorrow night coffee mugs will be handed out courtesy of Milford Chrysler Plymouth. SpongeBob makes his way back to Skylands Park for an entertaining visit. Tuesday night, the last game of this eight game homestand features a Sussex County Sports Hall of Fame Reunion, the second of its kind.
