BATAVIA, NY --- Nehomar Ochoa had his second strong outing in as many starts for the Expos, but the Vermont offense continued to struggle in a 2-1 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs in New York-Penn League action Sunday night at Dwyer Stadium.

Vermont, which has scored more than three runs in just one of its 10 games, scored its only run on Sunday on a leadoff home run in the third inning from Lorvin Louisa. It was Louisa's team-high fifth home run of the season and gave the Expos a brief 1-0 lead.

Ochoa worked out of trouble in each of the first four innings, including a leadoff double in the fourth. But a one-out double in the fifth from Oscar Bramasco came around to score on a two-out single from Michael Bourn to tie the game 1-1.

Ochoa left after five innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts. In two starts for Vermont, Ochoa has allowed just two earned runs on eight over 11 innings.

Chris Little relieved Ochoa in the sixth and gave up a leadoff double and single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Little then got Jack Headley hit into a 6-4-3 double play, but Jake Blalock scored to give the Muckdogs the eventual game-winning run and a 2-1 lead.

The Expos got a leadoff single from Frankyln Jimenez in the seventh, but he was erased on a Josh Whitesell double play. Vermont got a runner to second in the eighth on a two-out hit batter and wild pitch, but Ja'Mar Clanton bounced back to the mound to end the threat as the Expos then went 1-2-3 in the ninth.

Little (0-4) allowed the one run on two hits over two innings to pick up his fourth loss of the season. Tyler Kirkman gave up a single and walk in two-thirds of an inning in the eighth before Jeff Dixon came on to end the inning with a groundout and perserve the one-run deficit.

Vermont (14-45), now 2-3 on its seven-game roadtrip, was held to just four hits for the game. The Expos have hit just .197 (69-for-351)over their last 11 games to drop their team batting average from .217 to .213, just five points ahead of their league record .208 batting average in 2001.

The seven-game roadtrip will wrap up with single games at Oneonta on Monday and Tuesday evenings before the Expos get their last scheduled off day of the season on Wednesday. Vermont then returns to Centennial Field for a three-game series with the Aberdeen Ironbirds beginnning on Thursday night.
