Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- Imagine this scenario: Runners on second and third base with one out; down a run in the bottom of the 12th inning and playing in front of a July 4th crowd of 6,584 fans at Roger Dean Stadium.
Deep fly ball is lifted out to left field, easily deep enough to score Matt Dryer tagging up at third base. With all eyes on Dryer, base runner Amaury Marti decides to tag from second base, even though he's already in scoring position. Hammerheads left-fielder Dante Brinkley lets go of a strike to third baseman Grant Psomas, in time to get Amaury Marti and just before Dryer touches home plate.
Brinkley's outfield assist secured the Hammerheads 2-1 victory over their Roger Dean Stadium counterparts, extending their winning streak to three games.
Palm Beach starter Nick Webber threw a fantastic seven innings in the no-decision, allowing just one run on five hits. Webber has not tasted victory since a May 6th start at Clearwater.
Jupiter's Tim Wood lasted only four innings in the contest, but was equally effective, surrendering one run, on just one hit while walking three and striking out two.
Reliever Jason Jarrett (1-1) picked up his first win of the season and Scott Nestor recorded his fourth save.
