Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(St. Lucie, FL) - Drew Locke led off the 11th inning with his first Florida State League home run to give the Dodgers a 5-4 win over the St. Lucie Mets at Tradition Field Tuesday night. The win snapped the Dodgers 6-game losing streak and ended the Mets franchise-record-tying 9-game winning streak. The Dodgers return home Wednesday at 7:00 PM against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The Dodgers let a 4-0 lead slip away to send it into extra innings. St. Lucie scored an unearned run in the 7th to pull closer before coming back in the home half of the 9th. Zach Hammes retired the first two batters in the inning before Jose Coronado and Corey Coles swatted back-to-back singles. Then, with two strikes, Caleb Stewart homered to left to tie the score.

Locke not only hit the game-winner the 11th but was the primary reason the Dodgers had a chance to win in the first place. His 2nd inning single scored Cole Bruce to give Vero Beach a 1-0 lead. Blake DeWitt homered in the 3rd for his team-leading 11th round-tripper to make it 2-0. Locke then doubled home two runs in the 4th for a 4-0 advantage.

Dodgers starter Alberto Bastardo was able to pitch around several St. Lucie baserunners. The left went 5 1/3 innings and though he allowed five hits and four walks, he struck out four and did not allow a run. Despite surrendering the homer, Hammes earned the win with a scoreless 10th and by getting the first out in the 11th. Joanthan Figueroa struck out the final two batters for his first save since 2004.
