Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

TAMPA, FL (July 4, 2006) - There was no post game fireworks show at Legends Field on Tuesday night, so the Fort Myers Miracle gave the fans their own fireworks show on the field exploding for 15 hits in a 9-5 victory and extending their winning streak to three games as they pulled to .500 (6-6) in the second half of the season.

The game started out shaky for the Miracle as the Yankees put up three runs in the first capped off by a two run homer from catcher P.J. Pilittere, his third of the season. Miracle starter Josh Hill settled down after that going 6.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three.

His offense got it back and then some. In the second David Winfree hit his second homer in as many at bats, homering in his final at bat of Monday night's ballgame, to make it 3-1.

The Miracle took a 4-3 lead in the third when Korey Feiner and Justin Arneson started the inning with back-to-back singles. Alexi Casilla, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games, tripled them both home. He scored on a one out single by Trevor Plouffe. Casilla finished the night 3-4, with a triple, two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

With the score tied at four in the fourth, the Miracle got power from unlikely source. With two outs Feiner ripped a solo shot over the left field wall, his first of the season, and just his second career homer in three professional years.

The Miracle got an insurance run in the eighth when Winfree led off with a single to right. He went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a single by Brock Peterson. Luke Hughes' bloop single to left-center scored Winfree to make it 5-3.

In the ninth the Miracle added three more runs when Casilla walked, stole second and scored on a double by Brandon Roberts. After a sac bunt by Plouffe and a walk to Winfree, Peterson drove home Roberts with a single to right. Hughes finished the scoring with a single that brought home Winfree.

Every Miracle except Deacon Burns collected a hit and Winfree was 2-4 with the homer, RBI and three runs scored. It's the first three game winning streak for the Miracle since May 24-26, when they won three straight at home against the Brevard County Manatees. The Miracle offense, after scoring just 13 runs in seven games prior to the winning streak, have scored 22 runs in their last three games.

The same two teams meet Wednesday night at Legends Field at 7:00 p.m. The Miracle send LHP Justin Jones (1-3, 4.35) to the hill against Yankee LHP Phil Coke (2-7, 3.66).
