
Cardinals get mauled by Mets

JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals were dominated by the St. Lucie Mets, dropping the first game of a crucial series, 9-2, at Roger Dean Stadium. With the victory, St. Lucie moves two games ahead of Palm Beach with twelve games to play.
St. Lucie starter Jose Sanchez (11-8) proved dominate over seven innings, allowing just a run on two hits, while walking two and striking out seven. In two starts against Palm Beach, the right-hander has allowed just one run over fourteen innings.
Nick Webber (6-5) didn't fare well in his 24th start of the season, getting pulled with two outs in the second inning, surrendering three runs, on three hits and walking four batters.
Mets first baseman Mike Carp delivered the game's biggest blow, with a 3-run homerun left-center. Carp now has fourteen homeruns and a team-high 81 runs-batted-in.
Shortstop Rayner Laya was the only Cardinals player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
