New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) were beaten by the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) 7-2. With the loss the Cardinals drop to 6-13, and Staten Island draws even to 6-13. Matthew Desalvo, with the victory, improves to 1-1 on the campaign. Cardinals pitcher Juan Morales is now 0-1, while Yankees pitcher T. J. Bean collected his first save.
Melvin Falu hit 2-4 with a run scored in the 2nd inning. Daylon Monette drove him in, for the first run of the game, with a groundout to third base. The Cardinals scored again after Matt Pagnozzi walked and scored on a double play ball. Jose Virgil hit into the twin killing pushing across Pagnozzi. Kevin Estrada went 2-5 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Earlier in the year Estrada put together a six game hitting streak.
Cardinals will visit Staten Island tomorrow night, Monday at 7 PM EST. New Jersey returns home for a July 10th doubleheader with Brooklyn Cyclones. Gametime is scheduled for 5 PM, and the second game will follow after its conclusion. Phils Ford Lincoln Mercury is giving out team posters to fans.
