Johnson City Doughboys News Release
The Kingsport Mets came out strong in the 1st inning with a two run homer by Sean Henry and a double with an RBI from Ricky Oliveros. The Cardinals played superb defense all night, with the exception of one error. In the 3rd, the Mets scored another run from a questionable call leaving the score 0-4. Catcher Luis Santana hit another two run homer for the Mets in the 6th.
After the Mets 6th run, the Cardinals came alive, while rallying on two outs. A.J. Van Slyke doubled to center field to drive in the first run for the Cardinals. Next it was Randy Roth that drove in Van Slyke, and Cody Palmer doubled to drive in Roth to cut the score to 3-6. In the 8th, shortstop Donovan Solano scored from a passed ball by the catcher, and Steve Gonzalez drove in the 5th run for the Cardinals. But the excitement began when pinch hitter, Geoff Desmond smashed a solo homerun to tie up the game 6-6. However, the Mets answered back in the 10th inning with a game winning homerun from Oliveros. The Cardinals fall to the Mets in extra innings 6-7.
The Cardinals are on the road for the next seven games with their next home series of six games scheduled to begin on Tuesday July 12th with a three game series against the Greeneville Astros followed by a three game series against the Princeton Devil Rays. All games are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets to a home game please call the Johnson City Cardinals Office at (423) 461-4866.
