Springfield Cardinals News Release

Tulsa, OK - The final four games before the All-Star Break brought the Cardinals to Tulsa for a four-game series against the 1st Half Champion Drillers.

Springfield sent righty Seth Maness to the mound coming off his first AA loss against All-Star lefty Nick Schmidt of Tulsa.

The Cardinals struck for the first runs in the 2nd inning as Jake Shaffer doubled, Xavier Scruggs was hit by a pitch and Audry Perez doubled into left center field to drive in Shaffer. With one out, Seth Maness laid down a perfect base hit bunt to drive home Scruggs giving the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

Tulsa responded in the bottom of the 3rd as Warren Schaeffer doubled and scored on an RBI single by Josh Rutledge and Nolan Arenado delivered an RBI single to tie the score 2-2 after three.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Drillers got back to back doubles from Angelys Nina and Josh Rutledge to grab a 3-2 lead.

Tulsa added another run in the 6th as Kent Matthes doubled with one out and scored on an RBI single by Warren Schaeffer. That hit knocked Maness from the game. Jorge Rondon would walk the bases loaded with one out, but got out of the jam by getting a pop up and a strike out keeping the score at 4-2.

Springfield came back to life on offense in the 7th as Oscar Taveras and Chris Swauger launched back-toback homers to tie the game 4-4. After a Jake Shaffer double and two out walk, pinch hitter Adam Melker flied to center to end the inning with the go ahead run at third.

Justin Wright entered out of the Springfield bullpen in the bottom of the 7th and walked to lead-off man. After a fly out, Corey Dickerson, playing in just his 11th AA game, blasted a two-run homer to right field to give Tulsa a 6-4 lead.

The Drillers added two more to their lead in the 8th when Kiel Roling connected on a pinch-hit two-run homer off of Wright to put Tulsa in front comfortably 8-4.

Springfield will continue their four-game set with the Tulsa Drillers tomorrow night at 7:05pm in Tulsa. The Cardinals will send All-Star Trevor Rosenthal to the mound against Joe Gardner of the Drillers.
