
Cardinals Fall on the 4th of July

New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) fell to the Staten Island Yankees, 11-3. With the loss the Cardinals drop to 5-12, and Staten Island becomes 5-12 for a tie in the McNamara Division. The winner, Chase Wright (1-0), went 6 innings allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. New Jersey Cardinal Josh Brey (1-2) went 2.2 innings, allowing 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned runs, with 2 walks and no strikeouts for the loss.
Billy Schmitt accomplished 2 hits this evening and Daylon Monette reached base 4 consecutive times. Monette walked and scored the first Cardinals run in the second inning. Schmitt singled and then scored on a Nick Covarrubias throwing error in the second frame. In the 9th inning, Kevin Estrada walked. He later scored on a sacrifice fly to the left field by Kainoa Obrey.
The Cardinals will take on the Yankees again tomorrow at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey. The game begins at 5 PM and it is the Resort Vacation Giveaway sponsored by Pepsi.
