Cardinals Blank Drillers, 2-0, for Series Win

Springfield, MO - RHP Boone Whiting dealt a season-high seven scoreless innings helping pace the Springfield Cardinals to the 2-0 shutout win against the Tulsa Drillers before 5,121 fans at Hammons Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield swung in front with a two-out rally in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded and two away, 3B Ruben Gotay drove a two-run double inside the right field line, plating RHP Boone Whiting and LF Mike O'Neill for the 2-0 lead.

Whiting (W, 3-2) took care of the rest, shutting out the Drillers through his seven frames of work, amassing seven strikeouts and scattering only four hits. LHP Kevin Siegrist tossed a scoreless eighth, before RHP Michael Blazek (S, 6) closed the 2-0 win for the Cardinals with a shutout ninth. LHP Tyler Matzek (L, 1-2) dealt six innings in the loss for Tulsa.

Springfield kicks off a four-game series with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals this Thursday at 7:09pm.
