Batista, Travelers Blank Naturals

SPRINGDALE, Ark - After having back-to-back games with 13 or more hits, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals were only able to muster three hits off of Arkansas Travelers starter Lay Batista and a pair of relievers as the Travelers earned a split in the four-game series with a 6-0 win on Tuesday afternoon.

Batista allowed a double to Manny Pina in the second inning and singles to Orlando Calixte in the sixth and Roman Hernandez in the seventh. Batista allowed three hits with one walk and four strikeouts through 78 pitches in 6.2 innings of work.

Arkansas got on the board with two runs in the third inning on a two-out double by Kaleb Cowart off of Naturals starter Noel Arguelles. The Travelers added a run in the fifth on a leadoff home run by Travis Witherspoon. Drew Heid hit a leadoff home run off of J.C. Sulbaran to start the seventh inning, with two more runs crossing the plate on a C.J. Cron double.

The Naturals threatened in the seventh inning, with Matt Fields reaching on an error, followed by Hernandez's single and a walk to Alex McClure which loaded the bases with two outs. Travelers reliever Nick Maronde struck out Alex Llanos to end the Naturals' threat.

Arguelles is charged with his fifth loss of the season, allowing three runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts innings. Sulbaran was tagged for three runs on three hits with one walk in one inning. Nick Rogers and Sam Runion each struck out one batter in a pair of scoreless innings.

After an off day tomorrow, the Naturals begin a four-game series with the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday night. Jason Adam (0-3, 9.88 ERA) will start the opener for the Naturals against Seth Blair (1-3, 8.10 ERA).
